Sky Watch Friday - Tall Ships

I must go down to the sea again, to the lonely sea and the sky, And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by....

.......mmmm so can anyone see the stars through all this rigging.... and how does one keep tabs on all this rope?

I must say that there is something romantic about a tall ship, but personally I like terra firma.

NRP Sagres, a Portuguese navy training ship stopped in at Port Elizabeth for a visit this week. Like many other people in the city I could not resist taking time to visit her.

  9. That one is a really grand Tall Ship, beautifully captured! :-)

I miss seeing a tall ship every now and then. Somehow, they don't sail down the Danube.

  11. I agree with you that I also prefer terra firma. But these shots are stupendous! I bet you enjoyed visiting the ship and catching all the photos. Come visit me at my Photologue - although my shot today isn't nearly as good as yours! :D

  14. I love tall ships. Hubby and I were going to take a sail on one of the Windjammer cruise ships, which are mostly tall ships like this, but they filed for bankruptcy protection :-( I guess hard times are falling on everyone.

    Peace - D

  15. I had to learn that poem in school too. And funnily enough that first line is all I remember. When you're on one of those boats, it doesn't feel so unstable - give it a try. Lovely series of photos - thanks for sharing them with us!

  20. I too love tall ships and would gladly sail on one for a few days but definitely not around the Cape of Good Hope or The Horn of Africa.
I prefer to leave that sort of thing to the Ancient Mariner. Great shots, also of the geese and if I may make so bold, the goslings?

  21. A beautiful ship! It would take a navy to keep all those ropes untangled. :-)

  25. The Tall Ships are always so neat to look at. I think it would be fun to travel on them for awhile but I don't know that I would want a job on one.

  26. That is one grand ship! Wow. I am always amazed that sailors can figure out all that rigging and make it go!
