Beachfront birds #2 - Blacksmith Plover

I came across this Blacksmith plover in the bush behind Kings Beach.

He was objecting most vehemently to my presence. They make a klink klink sound very much like a hammer on an anvil.

Blacksmith Plovers are common throughout South Africa and will usually be found in flat areas with short grass, which are prone to soaking.

I think the yellow flower just makes the photos though.

Hi Max..
I have heard of these but this is the first time I have seen one. It look a stunner, and dose not need bright colours to do so.
Great captures Max

Beautiful shot of an interesting bird. The yellow flowers popping up are a bonus.

P.S. is the sound of its call (like a hammer on an anvil)give it the name of "Blacksmith" Plover?

Pat I am not too sure about that. Will have to check it out.

As always it so nice to see what life is like in South Africa. I have never been to there, so I really enjoy these images.

Happy trails.
