Meet Edwina

Edwina the Marabou Stork really gives a new meaning to the word "ugly" - in a comical way. Lets face it she is no beauty, but she has character.
If you want to meet her she resides at the Tenikwa Wildlife Awareness Centre at the Crags, near Plettenberg Bay. Tenikwa is noted for being a wild cat sanctuary, but I can't resist the birds.

After our tour with the wild cats we went into the bird sanctuary and then discovered that Edwina is not only ugly, she is also vey friendly. Just give an invitation and she will climb on your lap.

This was more fun than stroking the cheetahs. The only problem is that when you get up to leave she nips at your rear end.

I will post some cat pictures soon.

Wow, that must really be something to experience. Not a bird you see out in nature in this area and to have a close encounter with him.

When I lived in Uganda these storks used to roost in the tree outside our compound in the shamba. I became very fond of them I love this photo and your experience with Edwina.

I LOVE Edwina~ She's so sweet. I love that first picture of her. But, I have to think one wrong move in that last pic and...

All kidding aside I have to say she's a most loving bird. Have a great night.

The only time I have seen one was when I was in Tanzania - nice to bring back the memories.

You are so right Max-e, those storks do have character, we have one in our local zoo too. Excellent capture of ugliness, lol, but beauty from inside. Anna :)
