Garden Route - Agapanthus

I always enjoy our trips down the Garden Route, because no matter what time of the year you happen to travel, there is always some plant flowering. This profusion of colour was created by the fynbos and a clump of agapanthus. The agapanthus has become a very popular garden plant but it is indigenous to the area.

This close up was also taken along the Garden Route, on a previous trip.

It's so refreshing to see pictures of different flowers and vegetation. I'm so used to cacti and a very finite and small number of flowers - there is only so much that can survive in Phoenix, AZ.

I agree with you Max. If there isn't proteas in flower, its the heather and ericas, or agapanthus, or something else. That is one of the things that makes the Garden Route so awesome.

So beautiful. We go hiking down that way quite often and it is always beautiful and always different because of the flowers.

I love these Agathingys, I must look out for some at the garden centre here. Great photos as usual.

I planted agapanthas last spring. The plant itself did quite well in high desert AZ, however, I never saw any flower; just the stem. Guess either the deer or the javalina liked them too.
Imagine 30 years from now, the hillside covered in agapanthas!

You are so right - there is always something flowering along the Garden Route. ANd it always amazes me how the agapanthus can thrive with no human care and attention! They are such gorgeous flowers and that shade of blue is my favourite.
