Birds of the Inner City - Burchell's Coucal

I started a project a few months back, to see how many birds I could photograph in the inner city. Though many of the birds live quite happily in the concrete jungle, we are fortunate to have some well treed public open space alongside our neighbourhood, which makes it attractive for the more shy birds, like the Burchell's Coucal.

So far I have managed to photograph 24 birds and am still trying to get some elusive characters such as the Cape Eagle Owl and the Cape White-eyes.

A wonderful bird, great to them in a city.

We have a pair that breeds somewhere close to me every year. I love listening to their call in the mornings.

Sweet birds!!!! I like your idea here. I am sure you'll find at least 50 or 60 within the city. Maybe more?? In the winter, we have a lot of them here. During the summer, the numbers decrease a bit. Check those tiny spaces....some like to hang out in weird places:)

I just love this bird. We have the White-browed Coucal here in Tanzania and its call is heard regularly during wet season. Your image is stunning ! Have a great weekend. Jo
