Rust Bucket

I think this guy might have a slight problem with rust. This bakkie, or should I rather call it a sieve, was photgraphed at the canals in St Francis Bay.

Does it actually work? I see it's got one of those old transvaal number plates.

Interesting hubs on the back wheel.. I had some Fairy Free Wheeling Hubs on my 1969 Land Rover that looked like those. To engage 4w4 drive I needed to turn the hubs with a spanner each time I needed traction.. I soon whipped them off.

Yep it looks Rusty. I wonder if it is a "farm use" only truck. Do you have that type of thing over there? Here in the US they put limitations on trucks that are "farm use" only...not exactly sure what that is....but those trucks are the ones that look beat up and rusty!

Jenty I don't think it has been driven for a while, judging from the grass growing behind the wheels - but it does have new looking tyres. I think it is used to tow boat trailers - the launching area is just around the corner from here.

Heather - welcome. I just popped over to your site to see where you are from. Glad you've enjoyed our sites and that we are able to give you a taste of home.

Tom that arrangement could not have been fun. I like the idea of just engaging four wheel drive from inside and going.

Kerri I think this one is used to tow boat trailers to the launch site at the canals. It is probably not even licenced, judging from the number plates - those were replaced about +-12 years ago. It is also very obviously not roadworthy.
Any vehicle that drives on roads over here must be licenced, but I believe there is a licence that permits farm vehicles to drive short distances on main roads. However, if a vehicle is used solely on a farm it does not have to be licenced.

Karoline, that is probably why they use it for launching boats at the slipway :)
