Skywatch Friday - Starling silhouette

Photographing birds is always a challenge. They do not sit still for more than two seconds and then there is always the question of getting the direction of the light right. This picture of a Cape Glossy Starling will never make it into a field guide for birds, but it does make an interesting Skywatch subject, against the blue sky.

Nice capture I spend the whole week looking out for birds here in England. All I see regularly is starlings and seagulls (I live on the coast) I will look out Cape Gossy Starlings in my books. Have a good week. XXX Don

I actually like "not proper" against the sun captures where the object is dark with perfect contour.

This is a stunning photo! I love the contrast! All the bird photos that I have seem to be mostly water birds. Of course that what I run across most! I love all your photos here!

Yes, and when they land on branches the branches are usually bouncy! What a great silhouette.

He is beautifully composed. I like how his head is facing a different direction from the angle of his feet and the trigs.
