The sporting madness continues

For those of you who are soccer lovers and are keenly awaiting the 2010 Soccer World Cup, here is a shot of the new stadium being built near the North End Lake in Port Elizabeth.
I am not a soccer fan, but this view is a short walk from my home in Richmond Hill and it is interesting to watch the progress.

On the flip side, the mind boggles at the billions being spent on stadiums throughout the country - for a few games and then what? It is amazing how much enthusiasm and energy sport generates - but imagine for one moment, what would happen if all this money, effort and energy were to be chanelled into things that would make the world a better place for all?

Maybe they should use that money to feed people eh?

Is World Cup every year?

They are just going to be in your neck of the woods in 2010?

Should be a great opportunity for people watching.

You get quite a view from your place.I'm afraid that monies never would get channeled into useful places. Peoples "fingers" get in the way.

You are right about stadiums being build and then what. I think that is what happened here in Canada, in Montreal, everything went down afterward. I am not real fan of any game, but I watch when everyone else watches, because there is nothing else going on, so I guess I get involved. So you live in Richmond Hill, we have Richmond Hill here too, next town over, lol. Anna :)

Oswegan World Cup series that I am awre of are every four years. That includes Rugby Soccer and Cricket.
Our stadiums proved quite adequate for rugby and ricket, but for soccer I think it is four new stadiums.
The bottom line..........money, money, money

Anna, It is more about the money today than the sport.
I am amazed at how many Richmond Hills there are around the world

Hi Singleton - I can imagine but the cynic in me says man is essentially selfish and a few people will make a lot of money, while those who need it get the crumbs
